Assistant Store General Manager

The role of an ASGM1 is to manage and control the merchandise functions of the store, while achieving operations standards, sales, and profit targets with cost and shrinkage control (under or equal to budget). The ASGM is also responsible for monitoring employees' performance for all supervised departments and performing as a Duty Manager. In the absence of the SGM, the ASGM may be required to act on their behalf (or as their alter ego) ensuring proper overall store management and control, while mirroring the SGM's method of handling day-to-day issues in the store.

Selling and Customer Management

  1. Plan, manage, control and responsible for selling activities to achieve sales and profit targets while minimizing shrinkage level
  2. Work closely with Customer Sales & Service staff to maintain close relationships with customers; ensure calls are productive, new promotions communicated effectively, and customer service is maintained at high level
  3. Monitor and control cost expenditure, also maintain standard inventory level for all categories
  4. Prepare statistic report and analyze merchandise data in each category
  5. Follow competitor activities and propose in-store promotions to improve sales volume; communicate to Commercial Department
  6. Verify and control standard of merchandise, especially quality and freshness of all Fresh items
  7. Follow-up on promotion proposals to improve sales as budgeted
  8. Monitor pricing to be competitive; survey competitors' pricing to analyze and maintain pricing image of Makro; communicate findings with Commercial Department

Stock Level Management

  1. Verify and approve orders in OPL/ EPO system on weekly basis to maintain sufficient merchandise for stores' selling activities and sales budgeted
  2. Verify and approve stock adjustment for cycle and annual stock taking activities
  3. Work closely with Commercial Department in each category to ensure that Top Selling products are always on shelves, never out of stock
  4. Work with Commercial Department to get the best commercial deal with no effect regarding stock level
  5. Ensure proper Gap Check review and follow-up
  6. Ensure minimization of Aging product

Merchandising

  1. Work closely with Section Managers to ensure proper ordering and managing of display area, including arrangement, presentation, stock management and cleanliness of store merchandise; consistently teach the 6 Rights +1 merchandising philosophy (the Right Merchandise, in the Right Place, at the Right Time, at the Right Price, in the Right Quantity, and in the Right Condition, with the Right Service)
  2. Coordinates merchandise flow from GR area to sales floor, ensuring GR staff, forklift personnel and replenishment staff are working in the most productive and safe manner, while ensuring pleasant shopping experience for customers
  3. Analyze plan-o-gram to review product placement and determine if adjustments are necessary (e.g. matches with customer shopping behavior, adjustment necessary for potential sales increase, adjustment necessary for correction in product facings - holding power); communicate proposed changes to Commercial Department
  4. Coordinate with Commercial Department when promotion is arranged and special case to utilize display area; ensure endcap and promotional displays reflect Commercial Department designation regarding generation of other income
  5. Ensure compliance to FIFO method on sales floor (shelves and racking) and reserved stock in storage area
  6. Ensure staff knowledge regarding Own Brand products; knowledge to clearly present the specifications of products to customers and introduce new product by arranging demos and product trial events as assigned by the Commercial Department
  7. Ensure no item leaves GR area without active barcode, and that all items on sales floor have proper rail card or signage
  8. Review Makro Mail for adequate stock on hand and preparation is executed in timely manner
  9. Maintain high standard of health and safety in the store and ensure
  • Education and/or Job Experience Requirements
  • University graduate
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a senior management or general operations/management role, preferably within the retail industry

  • Knowledge of institutional or commercial food service management procedures and practices
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements applicable to an operation providing cash food service, catering, and banquet service
